The construction industry includes electricians, engineers, HVAC technicians, and heavy equipment mechanics just to name a few! Skilled trade professionals build the homes we live in, the schools we learn in, and the roads we travel on. Right now, West Michigan needs thousands of new workers in construction, and jobs are available in every part of the industry. Whether you enjoy working with your hands, solving problems or leading teams, construction has a path for you.

Kent Career Tech Center (KCTC) Open House
Kent Career Tech Center offers nearly 30 unique programs and career pathways for high school juniors and seniors to get hands-on experience while having opportunities to earn free high school, technical school and college credit. Each program prepares students for success in career and college, with many opportunities to earn professional certifications. Students of any age are welcome to attend, but enrollment is for 11th and 12th graders.
The Tech Center’s Advanced Manufacturing space includes high-tech, state-of-the-art labs where students experience hands-on learning in Welding, Engineering, Precision Machining and Mechatronics. Programs from Health Careers to Automotive, Hospitality, Teacher Academy, IT and Agriscience are also available to students, along with exploration and introductory courses in industrial technology, business services and general vocational skill development.

Water Career Roundtable
Water Careers Roundtable, held in conjunction with Joint Expo & Operator Days and hosted by the Michigan American Water Works Association (MI-AWWA) and the Michigan Water Environment Association (MWEA).
This event is designed specifically for high school and college students exploring career pathways by providing an engaging introduction to the wide range of careers available in the water sector.
The event is structured, educational, and supervised, making it a meaningful and productive use of time for students engaged in career exploration.
Educational Value for Students
· Career Awareness & Exploration: Students learn about diverse careers in water and wastewater operations, engineering, environmental science, laboratory science, information technology, skilled trades, and public service.
· Career Readiness & Pathway Alignment: Industry professionals share education and training pathways, including certifications, associate and bachelor’s degrees, apprenticeships, and internships.
· Real-World Connections: Students engage directly with professionals working in the field, helping them better understand how classroom learning connects to real-world careers.

STEAM Night in East Grand Rapids
East Grand Public Schools will be hosting its first annual STEAM Night on March 18, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at East Grand Rapids High School. The event aims to showcase STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning across the district while engaging the broader community in exploring and supporting these fields.
The event will feature:
· Student projects and exhibits from grades 7–12, highlighting innovative work both in and outside the classroom
· Interactive displays and hands-on activities for attendees of all ages
· Booths and demonstrations hosted by local scientists, STEAM professionals, and university faculty
We are anticipating over 200 students and their families from elementary through high school to attend.

JA BizTown Summer Camp
The JA BizTown Summer Camp is available for rising 4th-7th grade students for the 26-27 academic school year and will be held July 13th-17th. Throughout the week, students will hear from guest speakers from the community, participate in hands on activities, and after learning about various money and business topics, will run their business in JA BizTown for the day!

JA Imagine STEM Summer Camp
The JA Imagine STEM Summer Camp is available for rising 6th-8th grade students for the 26-27 academic school year and will be held July 27th-31st. Each day campers will learn about careers and skills associated with different areas of STEM, hear from speakers within those fields, conduct experiments, and complete design thinking challenges related to the work students might find themselves doing in these careers!
