Water Career Roundtable

Description

Water Careers Roundtable, held in conjunction with Joint Expo & Operator Days and hosted by the Michigan American Water Works Association (MI-AWWA) and the Michigan Water Environment Association (MWEA).

This event is designed specifically for high school and college students exploring career pathways by providing an engaging introduction to the wide range of careers available in the water sector.

The event is structured, educational, and supervised, making it a meaningful and productive use of time for students engaged in career exploration.

Educational Value for Students

· Career Awareness & Exploration: Students learn about diverse careers in water and wastewater operations, engineering, environmental science, laboratory science, information technology, skilled trades, and public service.

· Career Readiness & Pathway Alignment: Industry professionals share education and training pathways, including certifications, associate and bachelor’s degrees, apprenticeships, and internships.

· Real-World Connections: Students engage directly with professionals working in the field, helping them better understand how classroom learning connects to real-world careers.

· Informed Decision-Making: Exposure to an essential and growing industry helps students make informed choices about postsecondary education, training programs, and career goals.

Participation in this event aligns well with career readiness initiatives. It offers students an opportunity to explore stable, meaningful careers while learning about an industry critical to Michigan’s communities and environment.
