Ionia County Career Center

The Ionia County Career Center provides Ionia County students the opportunity for career and technical education programs. The center operates 10 state-approved programs. Classes are a combination of academics and hands-on, project-based learning giving students the knowledge and experience they need to secure their first-time job or begin college.

Description

Career and Technical Education (CTE) is at the forefront of preparing students to be “career- and college -ready.” CTE equips students with: 

  • core academic skills and the ability to apply those skills to concrete situations to function in the workplace and in routine daily activities 

  • employability skills (such as critical thinking and responsibility) that are essential in any career area 

  • job-specific, technical skills related to a specific career pathway

Programs of Study

Students at Ionia County Career Center have the opportunity to enroll in their Culinary Arts program.

This program is designed to acclimate students to the fast-paced restaurant industry by following the National Restaurant Association Pro-Start curriculum. Students in Culinary Arts will perform a variety of tasks to maintain operations and promote guest services. In addition, students learn about: food and beverage production, nutritional values, proper cooking methods, and sanitation. Running the Class Act Restaurant offers students the opportunity to research costs, utilize a modern Point of Sale (POS) system, understand the importance of health, safety, organizational performance and regulatory compliance. Students complete lessons in Rouxbe, a specialized online Culinary curriculum.

Ionia County Career Center Culinary Arts Program

Credentials Information

Students in Culinary Arts have the opportunity to obtain the National Serv-Safe Certification, which may help them gain employment. Second year students will be mentors in the program, expand upon their first year knowledge and have opportunities to obtain further industry certifications related to the culinary field.
