Careerline Tech Center

Careerline Tech Center prepares students for tomorrow's workforce by providing career and technical education for employment and post-secondary opportunities while promoting life-long learning and personal success.

Description

Careerline Tech Center is a service of the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District. At the Tech Center, we're helping students prepare for the future. Recognizing that all students learn differently, we offer a variety of options. If college is the goal, direct credit options and articulation agreements with area colleges allow students to earn college credits while taking a Tech Center class.

Programs of Study

Students at Careerline Tech Center will have the opportunity to enroll in the Culinary Arts, as well as, Pastry Arts & Baking programs.

Culinary at CTC is designed to give students a robust career exploration in the culinary and hospitality industries. 

  • Learn beginning hospitality and culinary concepts including knife skills, cooking techniques, and more.

  • Create dozens of world cuisines over the course of the year.

  • Gain real-life experiences as they work on catering events for Careerline Tech Center, community service projects, and class fundraisers.

  • Understand the importance of health, safety, organizational performance, and regulatory compliance through our ServSafe® certifications.

The Pastry Arts and Baking program follows a college level pastry arts curriculum. Students learn foundational knowledge needed to be successful at the college level, in the industry, and life in general. 

  • Some areas of study include: safety and sanitation, quick breads, pies and tarts, cake decoration and fabrication, chocolate, yeast breads, plated desserts, bakery management operation.

  • Students explore cooking theory, applied math, and materials science in the classroom, then bring those concepts to life in the lab by producing a variety of baked goods. 

  • By the second semester, students are prepared to put their knowledge to the test through the student-run CTC Bakery. Students are responsible for all aspects of the bakery operation including menu development, purchasing supplies, maintaining inventory, pricing goods for sale and more.
